Sheboygan, Wisconsin – The City of Sheboygan, known as the “Spirit on The Lake,” is home to Harbor Centre Marina, which was recently recertified as a Wisconsin Clean Marina, reinforcing their commitment to environmental protection and sustainability of Lake Michigan.
Since its establishment in 1993, Harbor Centre Marina has been a facility for families and fishers, with some of the best fishing on the lake. Their unique amenities make them a popular destination and include a boater lounge, laundry room and free parking. The City of Sheboygan assumed management of Harbor Centre Marina in 2024, making it a key component of the city’s revitalization efforts along the lakefront. The project is community-focused, and city staff are listening to public feedback on what design, infrastructure and practice improvements would benefit Sheboygan residents and the environment.
According to the new marina manager, Nicholas Warminsky, one of the essential elements in making improvements is upholding the marina’s long-standing commitment to sustainability. “Harbor Centre Marina has been a longtime certified clean marina. It is important for the marina to continue this tradition and remain [environmentally] friendly.”
Theresa Qualls, coordinator for the Wisconsin Clean Marina Program, notes, “Harbor Centre Marina has been certified since 2010, and it is great to see their continued commitment to the Clean Marina Program. Nick has embraced the program and is dedicated to improving Lake Michigan’s water quality for boaters and the community to enjoy.”
Marinas, related industries and services contribute more than $2.7 billion to Wisconsin’s economy. Through the Wisconsin Clean Marina Program, marinas will prevent pollution and protect fish, wildlife and public health. They know that clean water is important to boaters and Wisconsin’s coastal communities.
The Wisconsin Clean Marina Program was launched in 2010, and 26 Wisconsin marinas have since taken steps to voluntarily adopt practices to become certified. The Wisconsin Clean Marina Program is administered by the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Program in partnership with the Wisconsin Marine Association, Wisconsin Coastal Management Program, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Fund for Lake Michigan.
